Engineering Portfolio

Turbine Project

Engineering Concepts Explored

I learned how to research clients and location. I also learned how wind turbines are tested, developed, and eventually certified.

Technical Skills Developed

Real world research, wind turbine creation pipeline, and wind turbine testing. Also brushed up on CAD.

Personal Impact and Career Connections

Though I mainly worked on the wind tunnel part of the process, I still feel it helped me further my passion for environmentally friendly engineering.

Hydraulic Project

Engineering Concepts Explored

Hydraulic and pneumatic engineering

Technical Skills Developed

Cardboard prototyping and combining vex parts with more random building materials like a plastic box, syringes, and tubes.

Personal Impact and Career Connections

I took a lot of charge to make protypes and create the main idea behind this project. It showed me I was able to create something straight from the brain through prototypes along with other team members.

Biomimicry Project

Engineering Concepts Explored

I learned how to make responsive code using sensor data in a moving robot.

Technical Skills Developed

More coding in VEX brain for the animation and movement all on a moving frame. A color sensor changed the face on the brain with an idle animation when no color was detected. A motion sensor had the crab randomly move in different directions until no object was detected above it.

Personal Impact and Career Connections

I love animals and this helped me learn that I enjoy making whimsical and responsive code.

Compound Machine Project.

Engineering Concepts Explored

I learned about torque, speed, work, and power through this project using simple machines.

Technical Skills Developed

Trial measurement in google sheets, working with VEX parts to make gear trains and frames, and teamwork!!!

Personal Impact and Career Connections

This was one of the first projects we did in POE (apart from the tractor, the pulley, and the winch) which demonstrated the importance of team work as IED mostly had computer and indivual work. Working tangibly was very fun.
